(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 9 - Anti-riot police on Saturday clashed
with demonstrators who were taking part in an anti-fascist march
organized by left-wing collectives in Bologna against another
demonstration that was being held nearby by members of the
far-right Casa Pound and Rete dei Patrioti groups.
A group of left-wing demonstrators with their faces disguised
were quickly approaching the area where the demonstration by
right-wing activists was taking place when they were blocked by
anti-riot police who fired tear gas.
A heavy cordon of police had sealed off the surroundings of Via
Boldrini where far-right demonstrators were marching.
Meanwhile another group of some 200 anarchists also joined the
estimated 1,000 antagonists to protest against the CasaPound and
Rede Dei Patrioti demonstrators.
A few members of the left-wing collectives were slighly injured,
along with a passerby, according to preliminary repports.
The two demonstrations were being held in Bologna a week before
regional elections in Emilia Romagna on November 17-18. (ANSA).
