(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 15 - Four police officers were indicted
Friday for allegedly committing perjury to cover up and
misdirect a probe into the 1992 Cosa Nostra assassination of
anti-Mafia prosecutor Paolo Borsellino.
Giuseppe Di Gangi, Vincenzo Maniscaldi, Angelo Tedesco and
Maurizio Zerilli have been charged with obstruction of justice
by allegedly lying as witnesses in a trial into the alleged
misdirection which ended with the timing out of charges against
three colleagues of theirs: Mario Bo, Fabrizio Mattei and
Michele Ribaudo.
The first hearing in the fresh trial has been set for December
17.
On July 19, 1992 the Via d'Amelio Cosa Nostra bombing too place
in Palermo in which Borsellino and five members of his security
detail were murdered: Emanuela Loi, Agostino Catalano, Vincenzo
Li Muli, Walter Eddie Cosina and Claudio Traina.
The attack took place just two months after the Mafia
assassination of Borsellino's friend and colleague Giovanni
Falcone, as well as his wife Francesca Morvillo and police
officers Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro and Vito Schifani by a
huge bomb detonated under their cars on the Palermo-airport
highway.
