(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 15 - Cabinet Secretary Alfredo Mantovano,
Premier Giorgia Meloni's right hand, said Friday the government
would not back down on its controversial new flagship policy of
processing migrants in Italian-run centres in Albania despite
legal setbacks to the scheme.
Italian judges have nixed the detention of two batches of
Egyptian and Bangladeshi migrants saying on the basis of a
recent European Court of Justice sentence that their countries
of provenance are not wholly safe.
Government officials have accused the judges of being
politically motivated.
Mantovano said: "We have no intention of backing down on the
Albania project". (ANSA).
