(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 19 - Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed
understanding on Tuesday after the United States authorized Kyiv
to use long-range American missiles against military targets
inside Russia, while stressing that Italy's policy of only
allowing Kyiv to use the arms aid Rome sends it in Ukrainian
territory has not changed.
Speaking to reporters at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro,
Meloni said the US decision was a "response to Russia's
unprecedented aggression, on the eve of a G20 summit in which
Russia is participating.
"Italy made a different choice," she continued, pledging
"support" for Ukraine as long as there is a war there.
"We have always been focused on the issue of anti-aircraft
defence.
"Of course I understand the point of view of other nations".
Meloni said the government's decree authorising arms shipments
to Kyiv would be renewed when it runs out at the end of the year
and reiterated that Rome will support Ukraine as long as there
is a war there. (ANSA).
