(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 8 - Ferrari's Spanish driver Carlos Sainz
said after coming second to McLaren's Briton Lando Norris in the
season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and narrowly missing
overtaking McLaren for the constructors' title after his
Monegaque teammate Charles Leclerc came third that Ferrari could
be proud of what they had done this season.
Today's race leaves a bittersweet taste. Second place was the
best we could have done given Lando's pace in the McLaren. I
gave it my all", said Sainz, who is leaving for Williams as
joint-record (with Michael Schumacher) seven-time world
champions comes from Mercedes to replace him next season, seeing
him move to Williams.
"I congratulate McLaren but we must be proud of what we have
done this season even if we missed the goal of the title - the
Spaniard continued -. I am very grateful for these four years at
Ferrari and I think I have shown that I am capable of winning
victories and podiums, with the right car, and I hope to do it
again next year with Williams". (ANSA).
