28 febbraio, 17:05"One Man. One Mission. To Drive The Storm," it captioned the glamour-dripping story of a mysterious secret agent who pulls off his assigned task thanks to the "unique properties" of Lamborghini's latest offering. The 'raging bull' Huracan has been described in trade papers as "the best Lambo ever" and "a new weapon in the supercar wars".
Its name comes from a Spanish fighting bull, like other Lamborghini models. Huracán was a famously courageous bull that fought in 1879.
The Huracan, whose performance is comparable to the McLaren MP4-12C and the Ferrari 458, will be officially presented at the 84th Geneva Motor Show, from March 6 to 16, where it will be the star on the first day.
It replaces Lamborghini's sales leader and most-produced car, the Gallardo.
During a recent global preview tour specially organized for VIP Lamborghini clients, the Huracan LP 610-4 clocked up 700 pre-orders. The Huracan, with all bells and whistles, is expected to retail at almost 250,000 euros for a standard model while the cheapest option will set fans back about 200,000 euros.
The Huracán's top speed is over 325 km/h (202 mph). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.9 seconds.
Among the technological "new stuff sure to set pulses racing," GT.com said, is "the dramatically different chassis" than Lamborghini's Aventador, which was a complete carbon-fibre monocoque.
By comparison, the Huracan features a rear bulkhead and transmission tunnel constructed from carbon fibre while the rest is made up of an aluminium 'space frame'. "The chassis weighs 10 per cent less than the Gallardo's but is 50 per cent stronger," Supercar.com noted.
Lambfans.com, an enthusiasts' website, hailed another new feature, the Huracan's "full LED lighting that ensures higher contrast in night conditions".
"As for the new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission," Motortrade.com raved, "it is all we ever hoped from Lamborghini and some more. "The Huracan will automatically select the most appropriate gear to rocket the car out of the corner as fast as possible," Motortrade said.
According to the spec sheet provided by the makers themselves, "The driver can select street, sport, or race mode to alter how systems like the engine or transmission respond while driving". Depending on what mode is selected, even the engine sound is different - "from thunderous to rumbling or purring", the Volkswagen-owned Bologna-based manufacturer said.
