(People's Daily Online) In advance of the 2014 national "two sessions", People's Daily Online carried out an on-line survey involving 21 hot issues of public concern. From February 10 to March 3, a total of 3.4 million people participated in the survey. By midnight on March 2, "social insurance" ranked first with more than 510,000 votes, "anti-corruption" ranked second with over 450,000 votes, and "food and drug safety" ranked third with over 420,000 votes.

The top ten hot issues also included "income distribution", "leadership style", "family planning", "environmental management", and "education reform".

In the four years since 2011, "social insurance" has ranked first in the on-line survey. In the survey of subentries, the multi-track system of pensions continues to be the focus in the social insurance area. About 84 percent of participants are in favour of the merging of multiple pension systems, and they think that current reform is too slow - many of them sent messages urging that the merging of the pension systems take place "at once".

In the survey of "anti-corruption" subentries, the top three are "investigate and settle major cases with great resolution", "support supervision through the network and public opinion" and "further improve anti-corruption laws and regulations".

On the inspection tours made by central government in 2013, about 31 percent of participants believe that this inspection work is a good way to detect problems of corruption, 22 percent believe that inspection work can prevent reports from the general public being intercepted by local government, and 21 percent believe that inspection work is good for detecting latent corruption at grass-roots level.

Compared with data of previous years, the ranking of "food and drug safety" has risen from ninth in 2011 and 2012, and seventh in 2013, to third this year.
