Soccer: Catania, Cagliari sack coaches
Pellegrino replaces Maran in Sicily
07 April, 15:29Catania, who are seven points away from the safety zone with six games to go, parted company with Rolando Maran for the second time this term.
The Sicilian side also fired him in October after a poor start to the campaign but his replacement, Luigi De Canio, failed to turn them around and Maran was brought back in January.
Maran's place has been taken by Maurizio Pellegrino, who has never been head coach of a Serie A side before.
Cagliari, who are 15th with 32 points, seven above the relegation zone, dismissed Diego Lopez after a 3-1 home defeat to second-placed AS Roma - their fourth defeat in five games.
Lopez has been replaced by his former assistant Ivo Pulga. Serie A has seen 14 changes of coach this season, including three at Catania, and two at Cagliari and Sassuolo, while Genoa, Sampdoria, Lazio, Bologna, Chievo, AC Milan and Livorno have also switched bosses.
