Alessio Cerci is the first deal
of the next venture market, the January window that gave Milan
joy and pain over the last two seasons with Balotelli and Honda.
The reparations market can cure or sink teams, especially
those who have done little or badly in the summer.
Last year Sampdoria enjoyed this with Okaka and Roma with
Nainggolan, while Hernanes and Jorginho made little impact as
Matri woke up only after the summer by hitching up with Genoa.
January acquisitions are a gamble that will make the fans
dream or despair from January 5 to February 2.
Milan scored a major hit in October 1993 when the
supplementary transfer market was in the autumn, by acquiring
Desailly. The Frenchman, paid 10 billion, scored a double win in
the national championship and the Champions Cup. Fiorentina did
less well spending 13 billion for Edmundo in 1998.
Dejan Stankovic had a different trajectory, joining Inter
and taking everything with Mancini and Mourinho.
In one of his 1000 soccer lives Ronaldo joined Milan from
Real Madrid for 7.5 million and in 2007 stunned everyone with
seven goals in 14 games.
Two Brazilians both happened to start adventures in Milan in
January. AC Milan snared Pato for 22 million in 2007 but was
prevented by FIFA from transferring until he was able to debut
in January 2008 at age 18.
The following December Galliani captured Thiago Silva for 10
million but due to a full deck of foreigners he was unable to
debut till September 2009.
In 2012 it went well for Inter with Guarin, for Lazio with
Candreva, but badly for Milan with Maxi Lopez, for Genoa with
Gila, for Juve with Borriello and for Napoli with Vargas.
Two big deals in 2013 in the long run didn't pay for
different reasons: Mario Balotelli from City to Milan for 20
million and Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal to Fiorentina for 16
million.
Serie A is still licking its wounds from many fliers - the
Braziliann Gilberto who went to Inter in January 1999 while Juve
has on its conscience the Argentine striker Esnaider for 16
million.
That was they year of the bummer because Roma spent 30
million for Fabio Junior, the supposed heir of Romario and
Ronaldo.
Fabietto is still wandering all the second division stages
of the planet with the judgement of Zeman who said "he doesn't
know how to do anything and hasn't the least wish to learn".
