The number of employed workers in the
second quarter of this year increased by 124,000 units - up 0.5%
compared to the first quarter of 2024 - following the growth of
employees with an open-ended contract (+0.9%) and of the
self-employed (+0.7%) and a drop in employees with short-term
contracts ( -1.9%), national statistics bureau ISTAT said on
Thursday.
In the provisional data for the month of July 2024, compared to
the previous month, the increase in the number of employed
people (+56,000, +0.2%) and in the employment rate (+0.1
percentage points) was associated with the decrease of the
unemployment rate (-0.4 points) and the increase of the
inactivity rate aged 15-64 (+0,2 percentage points), the
statistics bureau recalled.
The employment rate reached 62.2% (+0.2 points), ISTAT said.
Employment grew on an annual basis (+329,000, 1.4%) with
permanent employees (+3.3%) and the self-employed (+0.6%) and a
decrease of employees with short-term contracts (-6.7%).
