Martha Stewart has been accused of
representing "a rich woman's privilege" after flouting the
Vatican's ban on taking photos in the Sistine Chapel.
The snaps Stewart took while visiting the Vatican Museums and
posted by the TV personality influencer on her Instagram profile
are sparking controversy.
The 83-year-old queen of home decor was accused online of
"abusing her rich woman's privilege" when she photographed the
ceiling frescoed by Michelangelo despite the museum's express
prohibitions.
Stewart, an ex cooking show host, talk show host, an awards
presenter, and even a Comedy Central roast guest, had gone to
Rome with her family at the end of November during Thanksgiving
and visited the Sistine Chapel as "one of the things on her
'bucket list'.
"Just a couple of photos on the iPhone 16 in our quiet hour
spent in the Vatican", the Instagram star wrote as a caption for
the shots.
Stewart also documented her trip to Rome with photos of the
restored Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, and St. Peter's.
In 2022, Aquaman star Jason Momoa was forced to apologize for
photographing and filming himself with fans in the Sistine
Chapel during a stay in Rome filming Fast X.
