Two-thirds of Italy's trash was
collected separately in 2023 for it to be recycled,
environmental research institute Ispra said in a report
presented in Rome on Thursday.
The report said a north-south divide on recycling remained, but
had narrowed by 4.5 percentage points, with the south collecting
58.9% of its waste separately, compared to 73.4% in the north.
In central Italy 62.3% of the rubbish produced is collected
separately.
Bologna performed especially well, with almost 73% of its waste
collected separately, making it the first Italian city with a
population of over 200,000 inhabitants to exceed the EU target
of 65% before 2030.
