Italy is top in the European Union
for the amount of sums collected for its post-COVID National
Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Premier Giorgia Meloni's
office at Palazzo Chigi in Rome said Monday.
Speaking after the European Commission handed Italy its sixth
NRRP installment worth some 8.7 billion euros, Chigi said:
"Italy confirms itself as the EU Member State that has received
the largest amount of funding, equal to 122 billion euros,
corresponding to 63% of the overall allocation of the PNRR.
"A positive result that will allow Italy to invest in many
strategic sectors".
It noted that the payment follows the positive assessment of the
Commission, adopted last November 26, connected to the
achievement of 39 objectives, divided into twenty-three
milestones and sixteen targets.
European Affairs, Cohesion Policy and NRRP Minister Tommaso Foti
said Rome was committed to requesting the seventh installment by
the end of the year.
"The positive work carried out to reach the sixth installment is
followed by the Government's commitment to formalize, by the end
of the year, also the request for payment of the seventh
installment, equal to 18.3 billion euros, paying maximum
attention to the monitoring activity of the plan and the
measures included in the last three installments, to the results
of the coordination booths at the Prefectures and to the
consequent action plans", Foti said.
