Cecilia Sala said on her first podcast Thursday after her return Wednesday from three weeks in Tehran's notorious Evin Prison that she had not been told why she had been arrested.
"They didn't explain to me why I ended up in an isolation cell in Evin Prison," said the 29-year-old Roman journalist on Choramedia.
"This story begins with the fact that Iran is the country I most wanted to return to, where there are the people I've grown most fond of.
"You try to have a shield from the suffering of others that you accumulate and sometimes sources you meet for work become friends, people you want to know how they are and Iran is one of these places".
Iran said Sala had committed unspecified offences against Islamic law.
She was arrested three days after an Iranian engineer wanted on US terror charges was detained at a Milan airport.
