The central Italian city of
Bologna has issued an order to revoke the honorary citizenship
awarded in 1943 to dictator Benito Mussolini.
Mussolini founded the Fascist political movement and led
Italy from 1922 to 1943, allying Italy with Nazi Germany and
Japan in the Second World War.
The Bologna chapter of the Partito Democratico (PD)
political party has requested the citizenship of Mussolini be
revoked, with mayor Virginio Merola supporting the proposal.
The city of Ravenna, which also awarded Mussolini an
honorary citizenship in 1943, has recently decided to allow the
political figure to retain the award.
