Italian Consul Giulio Mignacca took part on Wednesday 19 June in the symbolic farewell ceremony for the young people selected for the 'Academy to Italy 2024' training programme, organised in cooperation between the Royal Cape Yacht Club Academy and the Nave Italia Onlus Foundation.
From 25 to 29 June 2024, eleven young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in Cape Town will experience sailing training and more on board Nave Italia, sailing in the Mediterranean Sea. The young people will have the opportunity to develop their first technical and professional skills that could lead them to employment upon their return to South Africa, and they will have the opportunity to grow on a personal level.
Nave Italia Onlus, with the support of the Italian Navy, has been committed for years to promoting social integration through sailing and experience at sea. Thanks to the generous support of Pirelli, Nave Italia's main sponsor, and other partners such as Ferrari, it was possible to finance the "Academy to Italy" project for the second year running, presented on the sidelines of the traditional Italian Ambassador's Regatta last March.
Consul Giulio Mignacca underlined the extraordinary importance of this project, which represents a unique opportunity to offer a future in the marine industry to young participants, but also as a life and cultural enrichment experience. He also pointed out that, for many of them, this will be their first experience abroad, recalling the commitment of the Italian diplomatic-consular network in South Africa in favour of integration and the strengthening of friendship relations between the two countries.
