The Secretary General of the Farnesina, Riccardo Guariglia, on a visit to Bangladesh, inaugurated the new visa office of the Italian Embassy in Dhaka. The Italian Ambassador to Dhaka, Antonio Alessandro, was also present at the inauguration.
Ambassador Alessandro had spoken about the visa problem in a recent interview, explaining that visa applications accompanied by false documents and the illegal practice of paying large sums of money to intermediaries are among the reasons that create problems in making migration from Bangladesh to Italy easy. "The Embassy and our authorities in Rome are committed to making migration from Bangladesh to Italy safer and more orderly," he added.
The Bangladeshi community living in Italy is the largest in the EU and is a strong pull factor and also an important source of remittances for Bangladesh with 1.2 billion euros transferred by 2022.
