Uruguayan footballers with a sporting past in the great Italian football teams gathered today at the residence of the Italian ambassador in Montevideo, Fabrizio Petri, for a sports diplomacy event. A video was screened, produced in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, in which Uruguayan footballers recalled their sporting and life experiences in Italy, a video destined to be enriched over time as a 'living document' that is constantly being updated.
In the context of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, the embassy in Montevideo has in fact focused on the deep football ties between Italy and Uruguay in order to reach the youngest and thus promote Italian cuisine and its sustainability for health, also in the sporting sphere.
Fiorentina's chef, Duccio Pistolesi, in this context collaborated in the realisation of a shared culinary proposal with the chef of the Uruguayan national team, Aldo Cauteruccio, for the benefit of the government and sports authorities present, as well as the Uruguayan restaurateurs gathered to share this 'binational' culinary experience. Present at the event were, among others, the president of the Uruguayan Olympic Committee Fernando Ucha, the national undersecretary for Sport Enrique Belo, and numerous footballers including Maximiliano Olivera (captain of Peñarol and former Fiorentina), Pato Aguilera (former Genoa and Torino), José Herrera (former Cagliari and Atalanta) and Jaime Báez (former Frosinone, Cremonese, Spezia, Perscara and Livorno). The event is part of the broader Uruguayan IX Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, organised by the embassy in Montevideo, which, from 14 to 24 November, involves restaurants, ice cream parlours and food shops in the country.
