Yesterday evening, the Italian Ambassador to Australia, Paolo Crudele, hosted the launch of the new season of the Canberra International Music Festival (Cimf) in the Italian Residence. The Festival, which will be held in the main concert halls of the Capital from 30 April to 4 May 2025, offers a vast musical programme, comprising a total of 27 orchestral appointments, with extraordinary performances by Australian and international artists, offering a repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music.
On the occasion, the new artistic director, Eugene Ughetti, who will lead Cimf until 2028, was presented. Descendant from a Julian family, Ughetti participated in 2018 in the training-cultural internship for young people 'Giuliani nel mondo', a valuable opportunity to keep alive and active his roots with his homeland, the potential and the cultural and economic prospects of Trieste and Venezia Giulia. He has also taken part in Italian music festivals, such as the multidisciplinary Transart Festival in Bolzano, and has taught composition in conservatories in Tuscany and Friuli, demonstrating the strong link between tradition and innovation.
"I am very pleased to host in the Italian Residence the presentation of the new concert season of the Canberra International Music Festival, a pillar of the local musical culture," said Ambassador Crudele. "It is a privilege to announce the new artistic direction. We wish Maestro Eugene Ughetti all the best for a journey full of success and satisfaction. His passion and creativity, which have Italian roots, and great technical skills will certainly bring new life to the Australian music scene'.
The Italian Embassy, through an intense activity of collaboration with local realities, promotes cultural dialogue and artistic innovation and aims to continue to spread the passion for music, undisputed Italian excellence abroad.
