From tomorrow, 12 January 2025, after more than 10 years, Italy and Libya will once again have a direct commercial air link, operated by the Italian carrier Ita Airways, in addition to that of Medsky, a Libyan airline, opening up new opportunities for both countries. This was underlined in a statement issued by Enac.
"It is the result of a long work carried out by Enac President Pierluigi Di Palma and the technical structures of the Authority, with the support of Aise and the Italian Embassy in Tripoli, consolidated, most recently, during the October 2024 visit with Francesco Presicce, Accountable Manager of Ita Airways. The will to reactivate the connections was further strengthened at the outcome of the 10 December 2024 meeting in Enac with the President of the Fund for the Reconstruction of Libya Belkasem Haftar," the statement noted.
"The spirit of friendship that unites the two countries," said Enac President Pierluigi Di Palma, "is strengthened by the direct connection and the opportunity to forge, with greater ease, cultural, economic and commercial relations with benefits for both. I am proud that the body I preside over has so effectively contributed to creating synergies with the actors of the system both in Italy and in Libya, to achieve a strategic objective that is strongly felt by the Italian Government, as also highlighted by the recent visit of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the Business Forum, held in Tripoli at the end of October 2024".
The Ita Airways Rome - Tripoli flight will be inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday 12 January at Rome Fiumicino airport and will be celebrated in Tripoli with an event promoted by the Italian Ambassador to Tripoli Gianluca Alberini.
