The Italian Embassy in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, has announced the publication in the Official Gazette of the decree establishing the Honorary Vice Consulate in the coastal city of Manta of over 250,000 inhabitants, under the Embassy, with territorial jurisdiction over the entire province of Manabí, in the western region of the South American country.
"Re-opening the consular office in Manta after a few decades of
absence, was an important objective that I had identified as one of my priorities when I arrived in Ecuador a year ago.
The visit I made to Manabí last June had definitively convinced me that it was necessary to strengthen our presence in the province,' said Italy's ambassador, Giovanni Davoli.
"This is an area of Ecuador with a strong productive vocation and deep commercial ties with Italy, which have intensified in recent years, among other things, thanks to the fishing products that leave the port of Manta for our country.
"It is also one of the areas of the country where the Ecuadorian government's fight against transnational organised crime, which Italy fully supports, is most intense," added Ambassador Davoli, who thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation "for having accepted my proposal" and specifying that "we will soon announce the name of the holder of the new consular office and put it in a position to be immediately operational for the benefit of the approximately three thousand compatriots in the province.
