The Italian Ambassador to Bangkok, Paolo Dionisi, met the Thai Deputy Premier and Minister of Defence, Phumtham Wechayachai.
The focus of the talks was increased cooperation in the defence sector and the forthcoming visit of the ship Marceglia to Thailand.
The frigate left the La Spezia dockyard on 20 January for an operational projection campaign in the Indo-Pacific region.
It is scheduled to touch down in 18 ports in 14 countries on its journey, covering a total of around twenty thousand nautical miles before returning to Italy this summer. After Djibouti, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the ship will land in Thailand and continue on to the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Qatar, Oman and Jordan. The campaign will see its turning point in Japan, with participation in Expo2025 in Osaka.
