The Ambassador of Italy in Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, met the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, Nataliya Kiselova.
The meeting - the Embassy reported in a note - provided an opportunity to take stock of the excellent relations between Italy and Bulgaria and the opportunities for collaboration in the bilateral sphere.
In congratulating President Kiselova on her recent appointment, Ambassador Zarra hoped that the newfound political stability would lead to a relaunch of legislative activity and recalled the intense activity of parliamentary diplomacy that culminated with the visit of Chamber of Deputies President Roberto Fico in 2022.
She also recalled the visits of House Speaker Lorenzo Fontana in 2023 and Senate President Ignazio La Russa in 2024 to the Novo Selo military base where Italy commands the NATO Miltinational Battlegroup. The Ambassador then expressed her hope for the rapid constitution of the bilateral Parliamentary Friendship Group so that it could continue to work together with the corresponding Group in the Italian Parliament, testifying to a growing desire to deepen the cultural, economic and social ties that exist between our countries.
The conversation, which took place in an atmosphere of great cordiality, then focused on recent political developments, on the legislative programme, still being defined, and on the expected entry into the Eurozone. The topic of internal reforms was also addressed, in particular that of justice, in view of the contribution that the efficient operation of the judicial system can make to attracting investment to the country.
