Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday
entrusted new Minister Tommaso Foti with the portfolios relating
to European affairs, territorial cohesion, and the
implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan
(NRRP) that had been held by new European Commission Vice
President Raffaele Fitto, sources said.
The premier, however, kept the portfolio for the South for
herself and has begun a 'reconnaissance' operation within the
government on what has already been done to strengthen the
development of the South, the programmes underway and the
proposals yet to be implemented, particularly on incentives,
infrastructure and investments.
Meloni recently pointed out that "the South was the locomotive
of Italy in 2023 with GDP and employment growing above the
national average and a strong impulse to exports".
The sources said the premier's intends to "proceed along this
path with even greater determination".
