Pope Francis on Thursday made the
customary plea to the world's governments to issue amnesties or
pardons on the occasion of the Roman catholic Jubilee next year.
"I propose to Governments that in the Year of the Jubilee they
take initiatives that restore hope; forms of amnesty or amnesty
of punishment aimed at helping people regain confidence in
themselves and in society; paths of reintegration into the
community to which corresponds a concrete commitment to
observance of the law", Francis said in the Bull of Indiction of
the Jubilee 2025.
"To offer prisoners a concrete sign of closeness, I myself wish
to open a Holy Door in a prison, so that it may be for them a
symbol that invites them to look to the future with hope and a
renewed commitment to life," the Pontiff announced.
