Human Rights Watch said that
Polish law enforcement forces illegally and sometimes violently
force people seeking to enter the country to return to Belarus
without regard for their protection needs. Those who are pushed
back face serious abuse from Belarusian officials or being
trapped in harsh conditions in the open, which can result in
death or severe injury. Lydia Gall, senior researcher for Europe
and Central Asia at Human Rights Watch, stated that Poland's
inhumane and illegal detention of people seeking safety violates
its obligations under national and EU law, as well as basic
humanity.
