Joint European projects,
macroeconomic analysis of the opportunities for growth of a
supranational group representing more than 900 thousand
companies. Moreover, a shared position towards the respective
governments to raise awareness concerning infrastructural
interventions that will affect the Austrian highway and rail
network with direct repercussions on the economies of
neighboring countries.
These were some issues at the 13th Conference of the
Presidents of the New Alps-Adriatic Chambers of Commerce
network, held in Klagenfurt, Austria. The network includes the
Chambers of Commerce Pordenone Udine, Bolzano/Bozen, and Venezia
Giulia.
Among the crucial topics are road conditions and restrictions
on the free movement of goods in Europe on what has been called
the Brenner "bottleneck." "From January 1, extraordinary
maintenance work will start on the Lueg bridge in Tirol, about 6
km from the Italian border.
This work is the first of a plan to modernize the A13 Brenner
freeway that will involve the renovation of various bridges and
viaducts until 2044," underlined Antonio Paoletti, head of the
Venezia Giulia Chamber of Commerce.
This will bring some disruptions to trucking, partly because
the A10 Tauern is also affected by work during the same period.
At the conference, an appeal was made to speed up the works to
create as little impact as possible on relations between Italy,
Germany, and northern Europe and to lift the night ban to allow
for more dilution of traffic over 24 hours.
