Hera, the European Commission's
operational arm, has signed a contract with the English
pharmaceutical company Seqirus to supply 665 thousand doses of
vaccine for human use against the spread of avian influenza.
According to a note from the Commission, the vaccines are
intended for those who are most at risk of transmission,
primarily poultry farm workers and veterinarians. The four-year
contract allows for the possibility of providing an additional
40 million doses. The fifteen states part of the contract "are
Denmark, Latvia, France, Cyprus, Lithuania, Malta, the
Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Greece,
Ireland, Iceland and Norway", explains a spokesperson for the EU
