The election campaign in North
Macedonia is drawing to a close. On May 8, voters will go to the
polls for the parliamentary elections and the presidential
run-off. In both polls, the conservative camp is favoured. In
the second round of the presidential elections, the outgoing
President Stevo Pendarovski, of the ruling centre-left Social
Democrats (SDSM), and Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, supported by
the conservative VMRO-DPMNE party, the main opposition force,
will face off.
In the first round on April 24th, Siljanovska Davkova
prevailed by a wide margin with 40.08%, clearly ahead of
Pendarovski who stopped at 19.92%.
Forecasts for the parliamentary elections also give the
VMRO-DPMNE party an advantage over the SDSM.
