"Montenegro has met the
provisional benchmarks in the area of ;;the rule of law" and can
now "start closing the chapters," said the European Commissioner
for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, at the end of the 16th meeting
of the Accession Conference with Montenegro.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić described it as a "historic moment
for Montenegro and the European Union." "It has been 11 years
since the provisional parameters were first announced in 2013.
We had a long period of stop, but fortunately, in the last seven
months, we have accelerated all processes," achieving results
comparable to those achieved in the previous seven years," he
added, hoping for his country to "become the 28th member state
by 2028."
