In light of the ongoing Romanian
elections, the European Commission has increased its TikTok
monitoring under the Digital Services Act. The EU executive has
therefore issued a "preservation order" to TikTok, ordering the
platform to freeze and preserve data relating to actual or
foreseeable systemic risks that its service may pose to
electoral processes and civic discourse in the EU. "This is to
preserve available information and evidence in the event that
the Commission conducts a subsequent investigation into TikTok's
compliance with its DSA obligations," explains the EU executive.
