The EU Commission has opened
formal proceedings against TikTok for alleged violations of the
Digital Services Act (DSA) in relation to TikTok's obligation to
assess and mitigate systemic risks to election integrity,
specifically in the context of the Romanian presidential
elections on November 24th, which were unexpectedly won by the
far-right, pro-Russian candidate Călin Georgescu. The decision
to open an investigation is based on information received by
Romanian authorities from both declassified intelligence reports
and third-party reports.
