Veljko Bulajic, one of the
greatest Yugoslav film directors of all time, died at the age of
97, his family members told the Croatian daily Vecernji list.
Bulajic, born in 1928, was successful both domestically and
internationally, particularly with World War II-themed films and
the Partisan film genre. His film, "Battle of the Neretva," was
nominated for an Oscar in 1970. "Kozara," "Train without a
timetable," "Assassination in Sarajevo," and "Battle on the
Neretva" are among the most watched films in the former
Yugoslavia, according to regional television station N1.
