The EU ministers meeting today at
the General Affairs Council in Brussels approved a letter
inviting Serbia to present its negotiating positions for
chapters 16 and 19, which are part of Cluster 3: Competitiveness
and Inclusive Growth. The EU Council's rotating presidency made
the announcement. "With this decision, Serbia will take a step
closer to EU accession," the presidency stated on X. The EU last
opened negotiating chapters with Serbia in December 2021. For
three years, the European Commission has advocated for the
establishment of a third competitiveness cluster. So far,
several member states have expressed reservations about the
dossier.
