There were no active fronts in a
large wildfire in central Evia on Thursday morning, which began
the day before, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of
four settlements, according to the daily Kathimerini. The Fire
Service reported that firefighters are dealing with scattered
outbreaks within the perimeter of the existing fire in the
Pissona area of the island. According to Kathimerini, 91
firefighters, six foot units, and a helicopter battled sporadic
spots of flames in another fire that started shortly after
midnight on Wednesday in woodland close to Rethymno, Crete, and
brought it under control by Thursday morning.
