The renovation of the railway
station in Nova Gorica and nearby Europe Square, in front of the
station, which will be among the main venues during Nova
Gorica's stint as the European Capital of Culture in 2025,
officially began on Thursday, according to Slovenian news agency
STA. The station's renovation is expected to take a year, with a
total cost of around 61 million euros. After renovation, only
six of the 14 railway tracks will remain and will be used for
passenger transport. Cargo trains will be relocated to Prvačina
and Vrtojba. According to Slovenian Infrastructure Minister
Alenka Bratusek, the one that began today is "a major investment
in railway infrastructure at this time in the country."
