The Prosecutor's Office in
Thessaloniki ordered a preliminary investigation on Tuesday into
the breakdown of a metro train carriage on December 14, forcing
passengers to evacuate by walking through tunnels, according to
Kathimerini. According to reports, the investigation is focused
on potential offences such as dangerous interference with
fixed-track transportation systems and endangerment. Its goal is
to determine the cause of the breakdown and whether the
appropriate safety protocols were followed during the
passengers' evacuation. Images of passengers walking through the
tunnels went viral on social media on Saturday after a train
came to a halt between the Nea Elvetia and Panepistimio
stations.
