Fully a third of Mediterranean fish,
mollusc and crustacean species will be aliens by 2020, a report
said Saturday amid an invasion of clam-killing blue crabs, the
piranha like fireworm, lethal needle-sprouting scorpion fish and
the puffer fish, extremely dangerous even when cooked.
Already, today, around 1,000 of the Med's 17,000 marine species
are aliens, or 5.88%, said the report by
Confcooperative-Fedagripesca.
"It is the effect of climate change and the tropicalization of
seas, impacting consumption and fishing too," said the report.
