The special immigration unit of
Rome's tribunal has not validated the detention of at least four
migrants held at a newly opened Italian hosting and repatriation
centre in Gjader, Albania, judicial sources said on Friday.
"The two countries of provenance of the migrants, Bangladesh and
Egypt, are not safe,", said one of the judges in charge of the
case in a decision rejecting the detention of one of the
migrants.
According to the judges, the migrants must be taken back to
Italy.
Rome's central police department on October 17 had ordered the
detention in Albania of a total of 16 people including 10
citizens of Bangladesh and six Egyptian nationals in Albania.
Four, including two minors and two vulnerable men, were later
deemed unsuitable to stay after being identified and undergoing
health screenings in Albania.
The 16 migrants were taken to the newly opened detention centre
by the Italian navy vessel Libra on Wednesday to undergo
accelerated border procedures as part of a new scheme promoted
by the government.
