Tourism has grown in 2024 mainly
thanks to foreign visitors with an estimated 458.5 million
presences, up 2.5% compared to 2023, according to preliminary
figures released on Thursday by the Florence-based institute
Centro Studi Turistici for the sector's association Assoturismo
Confesercenti.
In spite of inflation-linked price hikes, particularly in
services, the tourism sector registered a positive trend for
most of the year, mainly due to foreign arrivals, the survey
said.
Meanwhile domestic tourism shrank with a -2.8% in Italian
presences and -2.9% in arrivals, mainly due to a fall in
purchasing power, said the poll, bringing the estimated figures
respectively to 207 million and 63.8 million.
The trend for foreign visitors was instead of some 251.5 million
presences (+7.4%) and 72.1 million arrivals (+6.3%).
