Police in the northwestern city of Turin have arrested a 72-year-old man who is accused of stabbing a woman in the neck and abdomen because he claimed her dog barked too much, investigative sources said on Wednesday.
The man has been arrested on attempted murder charges.
The attack occurred on January 1 in Corso Maroncelli, a southern suburb of Turin, the central police department of Turin reported on Wednesday.
According to investigative sources, the man got out of his home to attack the 63-year-old woman, who was walking her dog with a friend, screaming that the animal was barking too loudly.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she is being treated in the intensive care unit, according to the same sources.
The pair had already fought over the dog in the past, investigators said.
The State attorney's office in Turin has requested and obtained the validation of the 72-year-old's detention.
