A group of breast cancer survivors
kicked off Milan Fashion Week with a catwalk parade at Bocconi
University on Tuesday morning, smiling as they showed off their
scars.
The 20 women of all ages took part in the event, sponsored by
the Italian National Fashion Chamber with the support of the
chamber's Fashion Trust.
The event, dubbed I/deal, is the brainchild of the American
not-for-profit organization Cancer Culture.
The women included a model who decided not to have breast
reconstruction surgery and a Russian woman, Karina, who covered
the effects of chemo therapy with a hat but said she had wanted
to take part "in order to show that you can live a dignified
lifestyle and even have fun".
