To foster the exchange of
experiences, organizational models, and best practices between
neighboring countries in palliative care, front-run the
development of future collaborative and cooperative projects,
and help improve and implement organizational models on their
territory.
These were the goals of the international conference
"Overcoming Barriers and Borders in Palliative Care. 100-UniTs
of Opportunities," which will take place at the University of
Trieste on May 24 and 25.
The Italian Society of Palliative Care organizes the event on
the 100th anniversary of the founding of the University of
Trieste. It features the collaboration of WHO Europe and the
CEI, Central European Initiative.
Delegations from Austria, Croatia, and Slovenia (under the
patronage of their respective scientific societies) will attend
the congress. The Western Balkan countries " testify to the
increasingly important interest in palliative medicine and
palliative care," reads a statement from the Julian Isontine
University Health Authority. The focus of the congress is the
sick person and their family, with all the complex needs, not
only clinical, they have to face in the advanced and terminal
stages of illnesses."
