In August 2024, new EU car
registrations fell sharply (-18.3%), with negative results
across the region's four major markets: double-digit losses in
Germany (-27.8%), France (-24.3%), and Italy (-13.4%), with the
Spanish market falling by 6.5%. Eight months into 2024, new car
registrations rose by 1.4% to nearly 7.2 million units. Spain
(+4.5%) and Italy (+3.8%) reported a positive but modest
performance. However, the French and German markets experienced
stagnant results (-0.5% and -0.3%, respectively). In August
2024, registrations of battery-electric cars dropped by 43.9% to
92,627 units (compared to 165,204 the same period last year).
