Former Albanian President Ilir
Meta was arrested today in Tirana on orders from the special
prosecutor's office for corruption and organised crime,
according to ANSA sources. The charges against him are not yet
known. From 2017 to 2022, Meta served as the head of state.
Since the early 1990s, he has served as prime minister,
president of parliament, and foreign minister. He currently
leads the opposition Freedom Party.
